Update 7/15/2020 : Added a link to the law, notes a link to dashboard URL is in the email,
One of the most annoying things about being suspended due to quality issues (beyond the loss of visibility and revenue) is the fact that you did not know you were suspended. Call volume would drop and you start frantically looking for yourself online, when you can’t find yourself then you talk to a friend, can they find you? You then magically end up looking inside Google My Business, usually after days have gone by. Then you see the dreaded message.
(Note: Please, I implore you, if you get a suspension email, read the Guidelines for representing your business on Google thoroughly before filing a reinstatement. Ask someone for advice as well. When you submit for reinstatement you can get stuck in a denial loop and even ignored.)

I have personally dealt with north of 500 suspended listings just in this year alone. The story almost always is the same. I hear this “I have been in business for X years, I have X 5 star reviews, I run an honest company and my clients love me. I noticed I was not getting any calls recently and logged into Google My Business and noticed I was suspended, why did Google not tell me about this? How did this even happen?” Want to see an example of this?
This was such a huge issue for companies we even developed a service that contained a suspension notification.
Well, you can thank the EU for helping at least solve one of these issues. In an effort to comply with European transparency laws you will now be notified when you are suspended and you will know which location (agencies rejoice).
Here are some facts surrounding this change:
- Europe has passed a law whereby companies must be notified when access has been restricted to a service. (Link to Law)
- Email notifications will be sent to users that have a suspended listing.
- This is a global launch. Even though it is a European law.
- Even if you have more than 100 locations in your account you will still get a notification via email.
- The notice will still be in the dashboard for listings.
- You can expect the suspension email notification to contain at the minimum the name and address of the listing as well as a link to the GMB reinstatement form and Guidelines for representing your business on Google as well as a link to your dashboard URL.
- This email will not contain any other details surrounding the suspension (never expect this).
- There will not be a case ID associated with this email.
- Notifications will not be retroactive for suspensions previous to July 13th.
- Additionally, in the EU if an account is suspended then there will be an additional email notification. This does not apply to the USA for now.
